This course is for new and experienced managers and supervisors.

Course Overview

Join us for NCDA’s Leadership Institute, a four-course interactive training for new and experienced supervisors and managers in the community development field. Courses include:  1) Team Building, 2) Management, 3) Leadership, and 4) Communication.

This third course in the series focuses on building leadership skills. Course content is designed with specific examples directly applicable to managing CDBG and HOME programs. Peer-to-peer networking will be invaluable as participants work through issues related to the following learning objectives (see course agenda on the following page):

  1. Identify personal leadership style and how to minimize weaknesses, overcome blind spots, and maximize strengths. 
  2. Evaluate leadership effectiveness and recognize the impact of emotional intelligence on leadership. 
  3. Explore the emotional and interpersonal dynamics of the competing values framework: Compete, Control, Collaborate, Create as it applies to effective leadership. 
  4. Develop strategies to proactively enhance team motivation and well-being by fostering a positive and supportive work environment.
  5. Develop skills in providing constructive feedback and recognition, enhancing coaching and mentoring skills.
  6. Explore strategies to guide teams through change, addressing potential challenges and opportunities.
  7. Discover techniques to foster team resilience and creativity.
  8. Identify opportunities to develop a pipeline for leadership development and succession planning.

  • Registration for the Leadership Institute is available for NCDA members only.

Registering Multiple People On This Form

To register more people during this session, after you enter the information for the first registrant, click on the button labeled "Add Another Registrant". Repeat the process for each additional registrant. Once you have registered all staff members, continue on to the Billing and Payment sections beneathe the final registrant.  You must complete everything through Billing in order to complete the registration.

CONFIRMATION MESSAGE: You will receive a confirmation message from "National Community Development Association" immediately after you register.  Please bring this confirmation message with you to the class (hard copy or on your device) so it can be scanned.

Your confirmation message will contain an invoice ("Billing Information).  

 If you do not receive this confirmation message it means your registration did not complete and you are not registered.  In this case, please contact NCDA Staff.

Cancelations, No-shows, Late Fees & Substitutions

Cancelation Deadline: January 15, 2027

You are considered registered upon submission of this form (regardless of payment status), unless you have been notified via email that you are on a waiting list. Once registered, you are subject to this cancelation policy. All cancellations must be made by emailing NCDA Staff.  

  • Cancelations made through December 24, 2026 will be refunded 100%
  • Cancelations made December 25, 2026 - January 15, 2027 will be refunded 50%
  • Cancelations made after January 15, 2027 will not be refunded.
  • No-shows will be charged 100% of the registration fee.

You may substitute another person for a paid registration at any time up to the Friday before the start of the course without additional charge by emailing NCDA Staff.


Advance Payment Required

Participants are encouraged to pay by Credit Card if possible. A 3.5% convenience fee applies to all credit card transactions. Registrants may not be allowed into the conference if their registration fee has not been paid in full by February 5, 2027. Please contact [email protected] to discuss any payments that cannot be issued prior to conference start.

TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS: 

NCDA's Winter Meeting will take place at the Hilton Washington DC National Mall The Wharf (480 L’Enfant Plaza).

The training will take place on Monday & Tuesday, before the Winter Meeting begins in Wednesday. 

Guests are able make reservations at the group block rate of $265 plus tax per night. This block rate is good for reservations made through Sunday January 17, as rooms are available.

AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION

Reagan National Airport is minutes away from the conference hotel. The airport is served by a wide variety of airlines, and there are many ground transportation options, including plentiful taxis, ride shares, and shuttles. Find more information here: https://www.flyreagan.com/ 


THINGS TO DO IN DC

Many of the Smithsonian Museums are within walking distance or short taxi ride of the Hotel. You will also be a short walk from the United Stated Capitol and Visitor Center, the Supreme Court, Library of Congress, and the monuments of the National Mall. These include the Jefferson, Lincoln, and Washington Monuments, the WWII and Korean War Memorials, the MLK memorial, and many others.  The Wharf development is brand new and nearby with many dining and entertainment options.
